Does Your Real Work Happen After 5pm?
There’s a question I ask every room I walk into.
How many hours did you actually spend doing your job this week?
Not the emails. Not the reports nobody reads. Not the meetings that end without a decision. The actual job — the thinking, the deciding, the work that only you can do.
For most people I’ve trained, that number is smaller than they’d like to admit. And here’s what I want you to know: that’s not a character flaw. It’s not laziness. It has a name.
I call it Work Drift.
The Work Drift Is Real
Over the past two decades, I’ve trained more than 20,000 professionals — civil servants in Putrajaya, senior managers across KL, educators in Selangor, officers across government agencies and GLCs. And I keep hearing the same story.
Smart people. Hardworking people. Sincere people. Doing work that is genuinely not their job.
The tasks that were supposed to support the actual job have slowly become the actual job. The reports that exist to prove the reports exist. The WhatsApp groups where fifty people reply “noted with thanks.” The approvals that need three signatures for something nobody can remember deciding.
This is Work Drift. And it’s costing Malaysian workers — and Malaysian organisations — more than anyone is talking about.
Why I Wrote This Book
I’ve been a trainer since 2001. I spent years watching talented professionals drown in activity that produced very little real value, and I realised that most of them didn’t have a language for what they were experiencing.
So I wrote them one.
Work Drift: The Art of Separating Your Job From Your Tasks is a practical field guide, not an academic study. It’s written for the Malaysian worker, manager, and leader who suspects something is off but can’t quite name it. It gives you a framework to understand why this happens — and a clear path to break out of it using Gen AI tools that your organisation probably already pays for.
Hours back in your week. Not by working harder. By working on the right things.
It’s Free. Download It Now.
We’re giving the book away for free.
No catch. No hidden upsell. Just a book written for Malaysian professionals, about a problem that doesn’t get talked about enough, with practical tools to start fixing it today.
If you’ve ever caught yourself doing your “real job” at 11pm because the day was too full of everything else — this book is for you.
