How APU Lecturers Are Leveling Up with Google Cloud

In September 2024, Twenty-Four Consulting had the opportunity to work with the lecturers from the APU School of Computing for a 3-day training program focused on Google Cloud Generative AI Studio.

The goal was to equip educators with the skills and knowledge to integrate AI into their teaching and research, preparing them for the rapidly evolving tech landscape.

With a strong emphasis on innovation and technology, APU is at the forefront of preparing students and faculty for the digital future.

Our training covered key aspects of Google Cloud AI, giving participants hands-on experience with:

• Introduction to Generative AI on Vertex AI – Understanding how AI models like PaLM 2 can generate text, summarize content, and provide insights.
• Prompt Design Strategies – Learning how to craft effective prompts to guide AI models for more accurate and relevant results.
• Implementing the PaLM API with Python – Practical exercises on integrating AI into applications to automate tasks and improve efficiency.
• Fine-Tuning AI Models – Customizing generative AI models to produce outputs tailored to specific needs.

In addition to the core topics, lecturers explored tools like ChatGPT and Gemini, discovering how these AI tools can help in day-to-day tasks such as content creation and administrative work.

A key highlight of the training was the hands-on experience with Google Cloud labs, where participants applied what they learned in real-world scenarios.

From setting up AI models to deploying them in the cloud, the lecturers gained practical skills they can now bring into their classrooms and research projects.

Throughout the labs, participants collaborated, tackled challenges, and discovered new ways to leverage AI tools. The interactive sessions made complex concepts easier to grasp and apply.

Fun fact: Ali Reza, the founder of Twenty-Four Consulting, is an APU alumni.

Returning to his alma mater to share knowledge and engage with APU lecturers made this training extra special. Seeing their enthusiasm and willingness to embrace AI was truly inspiring.

By the end of the 3-day program, APU lecturers walked away with:

• Practical experience with Google Cloud tools to implement AI solutions.
• Insights into how AI can improve productivity, streamline processes, and enhance teaching methodologies.
