Equipping Students with Canva Design and Presentation Skills
On January 20, 2024, we partnered with MMU Career Connect to conduct a free Canva design workshop at Multimedia University (MMU).
This session aimed to help students understand how strong design skills and effective presentation techniques can set them apart in the job market.
The Design with Confidence workshop focused on two key areas—learning to design professional career assets using Canva and presenting them effectively to potential employers.
With competition for jobs at an all-time high, students gained valuable insights into how resumes, portfolios, and branding materials can make a lasting impression.
What Students Learned: Design That Gets Noticed
Throughout the session, students explored:
- Essential Design Principles – Understanding contrast, alignment, and typography for clear, professional visuals.
- Building a Resume & Portfolio that Stands Out – Structuring career assets for impact and readability.
- Using Canva for Career Growth – Creating polished materials without advanced design skills.
- Presenting a Portfolio with Confidence – Effectively communicating skills and experience to employers.
By the end, students walked away with actionable steps to improve their job applications, showcase their work, and build a strong personal brand.
Why Design Skills Matter in Any Career
Design isn’t just for designers. Whether applying for jobs, building a professional profile, or preparing a presentation, visual communication is key.
This workshop helped students recognize how Canva can enhance career opportunities and improve how they present themselves in the professional world.
With Canva’s easy-to-use tools, students learned how to quickly create designs that looked professional—without needing advanced software skills.
